With the chestnut harvest season underway, farmers are protesting the reduction in purchase prices and demanding their participation in determining those prices. The Gongju Branch of the Korea Chestnut Growers Association, the Gongju City Farmers' Association, and the Gongju Sagok-myeon Chestnut Growers' Association held a joint rally on the 23rd of last month at the Sagok Agricultural Cooperative's chestnut purchasing site in Gongju, South Chungcheong Province, demanding an increase in purchase prices. Lee Geun-eop, Chairman of the Gongju Sagok-myeon Chestnut Growers' Association, stated, "The Sagok Agricultural Cooperative's board of directors recently held a meeting where we requested the cooperative maintain last year's chestnut prices, but they refused, so we organized this rally urgently today." He added, "Following today's brief rally, we plan to launch a strong struggle with chestnut farmers in Gongju in front of the Jeongan Agricultural Cooperative as well."
