[Nongsuchuksan Shinmun = Reporter Park Se-jun] Concerns are being raised that the Korea Rural Community Corporation's fundamental function of improving agricultural production infrastructure will be undermined as the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment intends to designate it as an obligated supplier under the Renewable Energy Supply Obligation (RPS) system. The RPS system is a government policy that mandates power generators of a certain size or larger to supply a certain percentage of their total electricity sales from renewable energy sources in order to facilitate the transition to renewable energy and revitalize the market. Recently, during the process of amending the ‘Act on Promotion of Development, Use, and Dissemination of Renewable Energy (hereinafter the Renewable Energy Act)’ to reform the RPS system, the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment [newly] designated the Korea Rural Community Corporation as an RPS obligated supplier
