The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (Minister Song Mi-ryeong) has designated the period from October this year through February next year as a "special quarantine measures period" for livestock infectious diseases including highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI), foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), and African swine fever (ASF), and will strengthen quarantine efforts. This winter presents a situation with increased risk factors for livestock infectious disease outbreaks. The occurrence of highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds overseas has increased more than twofold, and neighboring countries such as China have reported new strains (SAT1 type) of foot-and-mouth disease that had not been previously documented...
