Wholesale auction prices

How these prices are calculated

• Source: every lot auctioned at Seoul Garak, Busan Eomgung, Daegu Bukbu, Gwangju Gakhwa and Daejeon Ojeong, from the real-time auction data the Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation (aT) publishes on data.go.kr. Ag Digest stores each trading day and summarizes it.
• Price per kg: a lot is sold per package (a 10 kg box, a 4 kg bag). We divide the package price by the package weight. Packages sold by count rather than weight are left out of per-kg prices.
• Median and range: for each item, market and day, the median is the price at or below which half of the kilograms sold. The 25th and 75th percentiles bound the middle half. The lowest and highest prices are single lots and often reflect a mislabelled package, so read prices from the median and the range.
• Counting: a lot the market re-saved counts once. A cancelled sale removes the sale it cancels; a cancellation with no matching sale is subtracted from the day's volume only.
• Change: a market's median against the same market's median on its previous trading day for that item. After a holiday that day may be several days earlier; its date is shown. A change is shown only when both days had at least ten lots: a median of a handful of lots is not a price.
• Best price: the highest median among markets that sold at least ten lots that day, shown only when two or more markets qualify.
• Origin is as declared by the shipper and is not verified.
• Price by grade and the settlement history come from aT's settlement records for every public wholesale market in Korea. Each chart states the market and the dates it covers. Settlement includes negotiated sales and corrected prices, so it can differ slightly from the lot-by-lot auction prices (by about 0.5% at the median). Markets keep sending settlement for about a week, so the newest days may still change.
• Coverage: these are auction lots at five markets, not every sale a market makes. Seoul Garak's daily total matches aT's published total within about 1%; the other markets have not been reconciled, so do not read the volumes as a market's full trade.
